About Paul McGhee

The Laughter Remedy was created by Paul E. McGhee, Ph.D.. Paul was a pioneer in humor research, laying the groundwork for the current interest in the health benefits of humor. After receiving his Ph.D. in developmental psychology in 1968, he spent 22 years conducting basic research on humor and laughter while teaching at the university level. He is internationally known for his own humor research, and has published over 50 scientific articles and 13 books on humor.

Paul quit his academic career in 1989 to work full time as a Professional Speaker, offering programs on humor and health/stress management to corporations, hospitals and other organizations interested in learning more about the benefits of humor, and how to build them into your life (see Speaker Brochure.) His Humor Skills Training Program (see Laughter Remedy Products) is used by both individuals and organizations to develop the basic foundation skills required to learn how to use humor to cope with job/life stress, and develop the resilience required to remain effective on the job-even on the tough days.

Paul is frequently interviewed by the mass media about humor. His work has been discussed in the New York Times, USA Today, Newsweek, GEO (German and French), Schweizer Familia (Swiss), Psychologie Heute (the German Psychology Today), Intra (German), L'Impatient (French health magazine), and numerous other magazines and newspapers. His work has been featured on the Learning Channel and National Public Radio, and many other American television and radio programs. He has also appeared on Swiss, Dutch and German television, and Austrian, German and French radio.
